JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump has warned Iran that it will face a more devastating attack if it refuses to reach an agreement.

"We want to reach an agreement. They are not yet in the position we want. They have to reach that position or they will be hit hard, and they don't want that," Trump told news portal Axios, as reported by TASS (18/5).

President Trump added that Iran would be hit "much harder than before" if Tehran did not submit a better proposal.

According to Axios, President Trump plans to hold a meeting with his top security officials on May 19 to discuss further military options against Iran.

Axios also said, citing sources, that on May 16, Trump had met with Vice President JD Vance, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and CIA Chief John Ratcliffe to discuss Iran.

Earlier on Sunday, the US president urged Iran to act faster to reach a potential deal.

"For Iran, time is running out, and they had better act soon, or there will be nothing left of them. Time is of the essence!" he wrote on his Truth Social platform.

It is known that the US and Israel launched a military operation against Iran on February 28. Iran retaliated by attacking Israeli territory as well as US-related infrastructure in neighboring countries in the Middle East.

On April 7, US President Donald Trump announced a two-week ceasefire with Iran. The two countries then held several rounds of talks in Islamabad, but both parties then reported that they could not reach an agreement on resolving the long-term conflict due to a number of contradictions.

Later, President Trump on April 21 announced his intention to extend the ceasefire with Iran.

Meanwhile, according to Iranian government television, Tehran does not recognize Washington's unilateral extension of the ceasefire and will act according to its interests.
