JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) is exploring film investment cooperation with Goldfinch International Ltd. to strengthen the Jakarta film ecosystem towards a competitive and connected cinema city with global industry networks.

The exploration of cooperation was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding between PT Jakarta Experience Board and Goldfinch International Ltd. at the Jakarta Pavilion, Marché du Film, witnessed by the Deputy Governor (Wagub) of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno together with the Director General of Development, Utilization, and Culture Development of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Ahmad Mahendra in Cannes, France, Thursday (14/5).

"I am confident that this exploration of cooperation will open up new opportunities for the development of the film industry in Jakarta and will certainly have a significant economic impact on the City of Jakarta," said Rano in an official statement received in Jakarta, Saturday.

The cooperation being explored includes the exchange of information and knowledge related to the film ecosystem, talent development, film infrastructure development, to the study of policies for the implementation of film industry incentives.

Rano said that collaboration with global partners could open new opportunities for the development of the Jakarta film industry, as well as provide economic impact for the city.

In the future, the exploration of cooperation will be continued in a more concrete manner through case studies of film production that fully uses Jakarta as a filming location.

This step is expected to be a learning basis to strengthen incentives, production services, and the readiness of supporting infrastructure for films in Jakarta.

Meanwhile, Goldfinch International Ltd. Chief Operating Officer, Phill McKenzie, said Jakarta has a great opportunity to become a film center, not only in Southeast Asia, but also in Asia.

He said the growth of the content industry in Indonesia, especially Jakarta, showed strong development.

"I have traveled around the southern world countries, and Indonesia, in this case Jakarta, is growing very rapidly in the content industry. I hope this can be a good step for cooperation to build a strong film ecosystem together," said Phill.

Goldfinch International Ltd. is a London, England-based company that has been investing in the film, media, content, and entertainment industries since 2013. The company has funded more than 300 films with a capital strength of more than 300 million US dollars.

Goldfinch is also involved in strengthening the film ecosystem in a number of countries, including Qatar and Thailand, as well as developing film production technology, including the use of AI engines.
