KUPANG - The East Flores Regency Government, East Nusa Tenggara, stated that the security conditions on Adonara Island are currently conducive after the conflict between Waiburak and Narasaosina Villages in Adonara District.
Deputy Regent of East Flores Ignasius Boli Uran, said he had brought together two village heads from the area involved in the clash.
"The security conditions in the area are conducive," he said, Tuesday, May 12.
During the meeting, Ignasius Boli Uran emphasized that the conflict that had re-broken out in the East Adonara region should not continue to recur because it only brought suffering to the community.
He emphasized that the conflict did not produce a winner. "There is only material destruction and leaving historical grudges," he added.
Ignasius asked the entire community from both regions to refrain and no longer be provoked by certain parties who seek to complicate the situation.
According to him, prolonged conflict will only deepen social wounds in the midst of a community that actually still has family ties and a history of brotherhood.
"The government asks us all to be silent and restrain ourselves. If there are parties who are still provoking, immediately report it. Don't hide," he said.
Ignasius emphasized that the government together with the security apparatus would not tolerate provocative actions that could potentially trigger subsequent clashes.
He also asked the public to actively report if they knew of any attempts to incite or mobilize the masses to return to carrying out attacks.
"This is our moral responsibility together to maintain security and order. Now the government is not playing around," he said.
The Deputy Regent of East Flores also asked both parties to start preparing historical documents and evidence related to territorial claims that have been the source of disputes.
According to Ignasius, conflict resolution must be achieved through dialogue and clear evidence, not through violence or war between citizens.
"If you talk about the rights of the people or territorial claims, prepare the history and evidence in a good way. Everything must be discussed openly," he said.
He assessed that the resolution of the problem would never be achieved if each party still insisted on maintaining their opinions without wanting to acknowledge and listen to each other.
"Any problem will not be resolved if the two parties do not want to recognize each other and open a space for dialogue," he said.
According to him, the best solution must still prioritize mutual awareness, peace, and the involvement of traditional leaders and village elders.
"We all have good intentions. Bad things must be left behind. This conflict must stop," he said.
