JAKARTA - The joint team of the National Police of the Republic of Indonesia (Polri) has successfully arrested Indonesian citizens (WNI) who are on the Interpol Red Notice (RNI) wanted list in relation to cross-border online fraud cases.

The fugitive has the initials LCS and was arrested at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten on Sunday, May 3.

Director of Cyber Crime (Dirtipidsiber) of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police, Brigadier General Himawan Bayu Aji, said the arrest was part of the commitment of the National Police in eradicating cross-border cyber crimes.

"The arrest of the LCS suspect is the result of cross-country cooperation and coordination and our seriousness in prosecuting cyber criminals, especially online fraud that harms the wider community," said Himawan, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, May 5.

He explained that LCS was included in the search list of people (DPO) of the Cyber Crime Directorate (Dittipidsiber) of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police. He was previously named a suspect in an online cross-border fraud case involving an international network operating in Cambodia.

The case has recorded at least 23 police reports (LP) from various regions in Indonesia. All reports are now handled centrally by the Bareskrim Polri's Dittipidsiber to facilitate the investigation process and the closure of the case.

Based on the results of the investigation, LCS is suspected of playing a role as an operator in carrying out online fraud using a platform called "abbishopee".

After being arrested, currently the LCS suspect has been secured and undergoing further examination at the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police.

Himawan said the National Police would continue to develop the case to uncover a wider network.

"We will continue to develop to uncover the international network involved and trace the flow of proceeds of crime for the recovery of the victims' losses," he said.
