JAKARTA - The United States Air Force (US) is seeking a total funding of nearly 7 billion US dollars (around Rp. 121.59 trillion) for the construction of a large new fighter aircraft complex at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska.

RIA Novosti, citing ANTARA, by analyzing the Fiscal Year (FY/Budget Year) 2027 budget report which was just released by the Pentagon, Monday, reported that the strategic project aims to increase the projection of strength and operational capabilities for the Pacific Air Forces.

The project, known as Fighter Town Recapitalization, is a new program in the 2027 fiscal year. The US Air Force has proposed an initial allocation of 2.066 billion US dollars (about Rp. 35 trillion) to start construction, which is expected to continue until December 2035.

The massive investment is driven by the need to adapt the base facilities to the demands of the US National Defense Strategy.

The Pentagon said the current airfield facilities were not able to support the increase in fighter operations, so it was necessary to build a new comprehensive air base complex that included maintenance hangars, conventional ammunition complexes, and barracks for 320 personnel to address housing shortages at the base.

The project is still in its early stages, with the US Air Force only beginning the design and proposal process in March 2026. Construction is scheduled to begin in December 2027.

The fighter complex is the largest part of a wider expansion at the base.

In addition, the US Air Force also requested 42 million US dollars (about Rp. 729.5 billion) in the 2027 fiscal year as part of a separate project worth 355 million US dollars (about Rp. 6.2 trillion) to build a Joint Integrated Test and Training Center, a state-of-the-art simulator facility designed to train pilots to face modern battles by simulating various cross-domain threats in a virtual environment.
