East Bekasi Grief, KPAI Demands Child Protection and Comprehensive Support for Victims' Families

JAKARTA - The fatal accident at Bekasi Timur Station which killed 15 female commuter line passengers left a deep sorrow for the victims' families. This incident also received attention from the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI).

Deputy Chairman of the KPAI, Jasra Putra, said his party encouraged various parties to immediately take concrete steps to help the victims and families left behind.

"The role of these women in the family is very important and often irreplaceable. Of course this will bring a long grief. Therefore, we ask many parties to be concerned and join hands to reduce the suffering of family members, especially to save the future of children," said Jasra when confirmed, Wednesday, April 29, 2026.

In addition, for accident victims who are still undergoing treatment, the KPAI emphasizes the importance of corporate policies that are pro-humanity, especially regarding the fulfillment of workers' rights.

"Companies need to provide adequate leave for recovery, moral and material support, and guarantee labor rights for injured victims, including full compensation for the families of deceased victims," he said.

KPAI also hopes that the social impact of this tragedy can be immediately mitigated through concrete steps.

"Social protection, medical and treatment guarantees, and ongoing psychological support (trauma healing) are needed for victims and their families, so that their children are not further abandoned or overwhelmed by concerns," he explained.

According to KPAI, the victims and their families will face a long process, ranging from treatment, recovery, to facing the feeling of loss.

The KPAI emphasized that it would continue to monitor the development of the situation and ensure that the rights of children from the victims of the East Bekasi Station tragedy are still fulfilled in this difficult time.

"We are with the victims," he concluded.
