JAKARTA - Member of Commission V of the House of Representatives, Syafiuddin Asmoro, supports the steps of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) which will carry out a total evaluation of the operations of Green SM Taxi. This evaluation follows the involvement of the Vietnamese taxi in the collision incident between the KRL and the Argo Bromo Anggrek Train at Bekasi Timur Station on Monday, April 27.

According to Syafiuddin, the existence of Taksi Green SM should be a serious concern because it is not only the initial trigger of the accident that caused 15 people to die, but also has a track record of repeated incidents. Where, there are many community reports related to the activities of the 'green taxi' which often create problems on the road.

"This case is not the first. Green SM taxis have been problematic several times and pose a safety risk. Therefore, the steps of the Ministry of Transportation to conduct a thorough evaluation are appropriate and must be immediately realized," Syafiuddin told reporters, Wednesday, April 29.

He then detailed a number of incidents involving the taxi throughout 2026. In January, said Syafiuddin, the vehicle was reported to have backed up and hit a restaurant.

Furthermore, in February, the taxi hit a road divider (busway lane) in the Ragunan area. Then on April 3, 2026, there were two incidents, namely the vehicle being stuck on the road divider in the Jagakarsa area and a single accident on the Pesing flyover.

Not long after, on April 14, 2026, the taxi hit the road divider in the Kuningan area again. The peak, on April 27, 2026, the Green SM Taxi was involved in a fatal collision with a train in East Bekasi which triggered widespread public attention.

"This series of events shows that there are serious problems, both in terms of vehicle technology, operational systems, and safety aspects," said Syafiuddin.

The legislator from the East Java Dapil XI emphasized that as an electric-based transportation company that carries innovation, Taksi Green SM should prioritize high safety standards and not endanger the community.

"We certainly support innovative environmentally friendly transportation. However, the aspect of safety cannot be negotiated. Do not let technology actually become a threat to the public," he said.

He also asked the Ministry of Transportation not only to conduct administrative evaluations, but also a thorough technical audit, including vehicle security systems, driver operational standards, and fleet feasibility.

"The evaluation must be comprehensive and transparent. If serious violations are found, there must be firm action, including a temporary cessation of operations until improvements are made," concluded Syafiuddin.
