DENPASAR - The Denpasar City Police together with the Kuta Police raided dozens of foreign nationals suspected of being operatorscam (online fraud) in the Jalan By Pass Ngurah Rai area, Kedonganan Village, Kuta, Badung Regency, Bali.
Denpasar Police Chief Kombes Leonardo David Simatupang in Denpasar, Tuesday, said that in the raid, 27 people consisting of 26 foreign nationals (WNA) from various countries and one Indonesian citizen (WNI) were secured.
A number of foreign nationals who were secured were known to be from the Philippines and Kenya. Some of them were not equipped with passport documents.
This raid was a follow-up to a report from the Philippine Embassy in Jakarta regarding the alleged kidnapping of its citizens who would be employed as operatorscam.
The head of the police led the operation directly accompanied by the ranks of the main officials at the scene.
The joint team found that the foreign nationals and Indonesian citizens were staying in a lodging complex that was suspected of being used as an operational place.
From the results of the initial examination, the police found a number of rooms on the second floor that had been modified into workspaces.
The room is equipped with electronic devices, such as laptops and Starlink satellite-based internet networks.
In addition, the police also secured a number of evidence in the form of dozens of mobile phones, laptops, iPads, internet devices, and attributes resembling foreign law enforcement agencies.
The police suspect that the device and attributes are used to support online fraud activities.
"All foreign nationals who were secured are still undergoing data collection and intensive examination by the joint team," said the Police Chief, as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, April 28.
The examination was carried out by the Denpasar Police, Kuta Police, Directorate of General Criminal Investigation of the Bali Police, and the Bali Police Cyber Directorate.
Investigators have also coordinated with the Bali Immigration Office to check the immigration status of the foreign nationals.
The police chief said his party would continue to investigate this case to uncover the possibility of a wider network.
The police also emphasized their commitment to provide protection for the victims who are suspected of being involved in the case.
