Minister of PPPA Suggests Women's Carriages to Move to the Middle after Train Accident in Bekasi

JAKARTA - Minister of Empowerment of Women and Child Protection (PPPA) Arifah Fauzi proposed that a special women's carriage be shifted to the middle of the electric train (KRL) train set.

The proposal was submitted after the Argo Bromo Anggrek train accident with the KRL at Bekasi Timur Station on Monday evening, April 27. This proposal is said to have been discussed with KAI.

"With this incident, we propose that the woman can be placed in the middle," Arifah told reporters at the Bekasi Regional General Hospital, Tuesday, April 28.

Arifah said that his party had asked KAI for an explanation as to why the special women's car was at the end of the series.

"If we were talking to KAI, why was it put at the front, at the back so that it would not be disputed," he said.

Currently, the Ministry of PPPA continues to monitor the train accident. His party also provides assistance, "not only in terms of medicine but also recovery both physically and psychologically," said Arifah.

"Because we see that some people have experienced trauma and this needs more special assistance," he continued.

Arifah also ensured that assistance would be provided for workers. "We are trying to ensure that the companies where they work can provide relief until they recover, they can only go back to work," he said.

"Hopefully this can be done by several companies. Earlier, one of the companies was also present, we met directly and we said, 'please let this victim recover completely' then the rights as employees are fulfilled, and once healthy can return to work as usual. That's some of the things we did earlier."
