JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Legal, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra revealed that the government is waiting for the draft bill on the General Election (RUU Pemilu) to be completed in the House of Representatives (DPR) RI.
"The draft in the DPR has not been completed until now. When it is completed, yes we will start discussing," said Yusril when met in Jakarta, Saturday.
He assessed that it would be better if the Election Bill was discussed more quickly because ideally the bill would have been completed in 2 years and 6 months of the current government.
The reason, he said, is that in about 2 years and 6 months, the election will be held. However, this will depend very much on how the government and the DPR can immediately discuss the Election Bill.
He did not deny that there were some changes to the Election Law that were very significant as a result of the Constitutional Court (MK) ruling so that many would be discussed.
Initially, Yusril said the government had drafted the Election Bill, but after discussing it, it was agreed that the draft would come from the DPR.
"So, the DPR will initiate the proposal and later the President will appoint a counterpart to discuss the bill," he said.
Previously, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco Ahmad said that his party did not want to rush to discuss the bill on the Amendment to Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections.
