JAKARTA - The Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Meutya Hafid, stated that discussions with the Roblox game platform are still ongoing regarding the commitment to maintaining a safe digital space for children in accordance with the Government Regulation on Child Protection in Digital Spaces (PP Tunas).

With communication still ongoing, the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemenkomdigi) hopes that Roblox will soon declare full compliance in the near future.

"Roblox is still communicating and hopefully in the near future we can also see the same compliance," Meutya said at a press conference in Jakarta, Wednesday, April 22.

In the latest development, YouTube has joined six other digital platforms that have previously expressed full commitment to PP Tunas, especially in limiting access for users under the age of 16.

YouTube also updated its community policy by confirming that it will disable user accounts under the age of 16 in Indonesia.

With this step, of the eight platforms that are the focus of the initial implementation of the Tunas PP, only Roblox has not declared full compliance.

Previously, Roblox had made a number of adjustments on April 14, including introducing the Roblox Kids feature for users aged 5-12 years and Roblox Select for users aged 13-15 years, which is equipped with age verification technology.

However, the Ministry of Communication and Information assessed that the adjustment had not fully met the provisions of the PP Tunas, because there was still a possibility of interaction with unknown users.

"Although we have made quite a lot of adjustments, we have not been able to receive a proposal from Roblox to state that Roblox has complied (PP Tunas). So it means not yet, we still assess that there is no compliance with PP Tunas," said Meutya.

According to Meutya, limiting communication with unknown parties is one of the main demands of parents in Indonesia to ensure the safety of children in the digital space.

For information, PP Tunas or Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 has been officially in force since March 28, 2026, which requires eight major digital platforms to limit access by blocking or disabling user accounts under the age of 16 as part of efforts to protect children in the digital space.

The platforms that fall under this obligation include YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, Bigo Live, and Roblox. The government has also prepared strict sanctions in the form of blocking operations for platforms that do not comply with these rules.
