JAKARTA - Palestinian Foreign Minister Varsen Aghabekian said that the genocide carried out by Israel against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip is still ongoing, with the humanitarian situation getting worse and requiring immediate international action.

Speaking at a panel at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in Turkiye, Aghabekian said the situation in Gaza remained in a very worrying state even though it had been several months since the ceasefire agreement.

"Today we are five months after the signing of the Sharm el-Sheikh agreement, and what we see in Gaza is nothing but a disaster," he said, quoted by ANTARA from Anadolu, Friday, April 17.

"The killings continue, the number of injured continues to increase, and humanitarian aid is still far from what is needed," he continued.

He described the living conditions as very difficult, with displaced Palestinians having to live in tents that are vulnerable to flooding and unsanitary conditions.

"Residents live in tents that are submerged in water," he said, adding that reports from various international organizations show that residents live among rubble and garbage, while food supplies are contaminated by rodents.

Aghabekian also questioned the slow response of the international humanitarian community.

"When will emergency relief efforts begin in Gaza? When will humanitarian aid enter, and when will we see basic needs such as health services, education, and water can be channeled?" he said.

He stated that the current condition is the result of years of Israeli attacks.

"This genocide is the culmination of years of violations that have brought us to the current situation," he added.

The statement was made amid daily violations by Israel of the ceasefire that has been in place since October 10, 2025. The Gaza Ministry of Health stated that the violations had killed 765 Palestinians and injured 2,140 others to date.

The ceasefire follows two years of Israeli genocide that began in October 2023, which has killed more than 72,340 Palestinians and injured 172,250 others, as well as destroying about 90 percent of the region's infrastructure, according to Gaza authorities.
