JAKARTA - The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) is still collecting evidence related to the alleged attack on Andrie Yunus (AY) as part of efforts to ensure fair and accountable law enforcement.
"That, including the statements of the parties, electronic evidence, expert testimony, and other evidence to strengthen the results of monitoring the case," said a member of the Komnas HAM Monitoring and Investigation Team on the case, Pramono U Tanthowidan Saurlin P. Siagi, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, April 17.
It was explained that the effort was part of encouraging a thorough disclosure of other perpetrators suspected of being involved in the case.
However, Komnas HAM also admitted that it still faced obstacles in the deepening process, especially regarding access to examination of certain parties.
"We are still trying to collect evidence, including efforts to examine the defendants who to this day we have not received permission from the TNI," he said.
In addition, the institution is completing a monitoring report that will soon be submitted in the form of recommendations to the parties concerned, while continuing to assess the alleged intimidation of 12 other human rights activists.
In the investigation of the case, Komnas HAM assessed that the number of perpetrators who had been determined did not reflect the entire parties involved.
"We strongly suspect that the perpetrators involved in this case are not only four people, as they have been made suspects and potential defendants," he said.
On this basis, Komnas HAM urges the police to continue the investigation process to uncover other perpetrators, including the possibility of involvement of parties outside the military element.
"We urge the National Police to continue the investigation process, to uncover the identities of other perpetrators who are suspected of being involved in this case," he said.
Komnas HAM also opened the option of forming a Joint Fact-Finding Team (TGPF) if there were obstacles in the disclosure process.
"If the National Police has constraints, then we encourage the government to consider the establishment of the TGPF," he said.
According to Komnas HAM, a thorough disclosure is important to prevent the identity of the perpetrator from being mistaken and to ensure that all parties involved can be held legally accountable.
"Fair, transparent, and accountable law enforcement is important so that there is no mistake in the identity of the perpetrator and to avoid potential impunity," he said.
The effort is considered an important part of providing a deterrent effect and preventing similar events from being repeated in the future.
