JAKARTA - Allegedly due to lack of concentration, a motorcycle rider with the initials MN (58) died after hitting the back of an electric bus that was stopped at the Lenteng Agung area bus stop, South Jakarta.
The Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Metro Jaya Police, AKBP Ojo Ruslani, explained that the incident occurred on Thursday around 10.00 WIB.
"It is suspected that due to lack of concentration, the victim was unable to avoid the bus which was stopping and immediately hit the back of the vehicle," said Ojo in his statement in Jakarta, Antara, Friday, April 17.
He said that based on the results of the initial investigation and witness statements, the accident began when the BYD electric bus with the police number B-7002-SGX operated by the driver with the initials T (29) was stopped at the Lenteng Agung Station passenger stop.
"At the same time, the motorcycle driven by the victim was traveling from north to south. Because of lack of concentration, the victim was unable to avoid the bus which was stopping and immediately hit the back of the bus," said Ojo.
He said the hard collision also caused significant damage to the victim's motorcycle, especially the front which was broken. Meanwhile, the back of the bus only suffered minor damage.
"This difference in the level of damage shows the strong impact of the collision received by the two-wheeled vehicle," said Ojo.
He said his party had secured the location of the incident, collected witness statements, evacuated the victims to health facilities, and secured vehicles and related documents.
Furthermore, he revealed that the Lenteng Agung area is known as one of the points with heavy traffic, especially around public transportation stations and stops.
"These conditions require extra vigilance from all road users, especially when passing through public transportation stops," said Ojo.
He also reminded the public to always maintain concentration while driving, especially on crowded roads and accident-prone areas.
He also emphasized the importance of maintaining a safe distance with vehicles in front, especially large vehicles, such as buses.
"Driving safety must be the top priority. The slightest negligence can be fatal," said Ojo.
