JAKARTA - The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemendiktisaintek) reiterated its commitment to not tolerate any form of violence in the university environment.
The statement was made by the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Brian Yuliarto, in response to the case of verbal sexual violence that occurred at the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia (FH UI) recently.
According to Brian, the campus should be a safe, dignified space, and uphold integrity for all academicians. Therefore, there should be no room for any form of violence in the university environment.
He emphasized that every institution of higher education must create a safe, inclusive, and free environment from various forms of violence, whether physical, verbal, psychological, sexual, or digital-based violence.
"All actions that degrade human dignity are serious violations and must be handled fairly and prioritize victim protection," Brian said in his statement quoted by Antara, Tuesday, April 14.
In terms of policy, Brian explained that handling cases of violence refers to the Regulation of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Number 55 of 2024 concerning the Prevention and Handling of Violence in the Higher Education Environment.
The regulation covers various forms of violence, ranging from sexual, verbal, psychological, bullying, to discrimination and intolerance. Each university is also required to form and strengthen the Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Violence in the University Environment (PPKPT Task Force), as well as ensuring protection and recovery for victims.
Furthermore, Brian said that if during the handling process, criminal elements were found, then law enforcement would refer to Law Number 12 of 2022 concerning Sexual Violence Crimes.
He also revealed that he had coordinated with the rector of the University of Indonesia and continued to monitor the development of the handling of the case, including ensuring that the victim received proper protection and assistance.
As a follow-up step, the Ministry of Industry and Technology has carried out intensive coordination with the university to ensure that the handling process is carried out according to procedures. In addition, supervision of the performance of the PPKPT Task Force has also been strengthened, as well as transparency and accountability in the investigation process continues to be encouraged.
To facilitate access to reporting, the public and academic community can submit complaints through the SP4N-LAPOR channel, the PPKPT Task Force at each campus, and the official complaint service of the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education.
"Kemendiktisaintek also confirms its commitment to strengthening prevention efforts through education, supervision, and institutional strengthening," he said.
In addition, the enforcement of administrative and legal sanctions will be carried out firmly in order to create a safe, inclusive, and ethical campus environment.
"Universities must be a space that upholds human values, justice, and integrity, and is free from all forms of violence," he concluded.
