JAKARTA - The Attorney General's Office (Kejagung) has uncovered allegations of corruption in the procurement of crude oil and refinery products at Pertamina Energy Trading Limited (Petral) for the period 2008-2015 which allegedly made the price of fuel oil (BBM) more expensive.
Director of Investigation of the Attorney General's Office for Islamic Affairs, Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, said his party had taken various steps to bring Riza Chalid to Indonesia.
"We will continue to work with Interpol, especially Interpol Indonesia, to try to bring back MRC's brother," Syarief said at a press conference, Thursday, April 9 evening.
He explained that Riza Chalid was a suspect in the case of alleged corruption in the management of crude oil and refinery products, including procurement cases at Pertamina Energy Trading Limited (Petral) for the period 2008-2015.
The Attorney General's Office found an internal information leak related to crude oil and refinery product needs, which is suspected to be used by certain parties to condition the tender process.
One of the suspects, MRC, who is known as the oil trader Mohammad Riza Chalid, is suspected of influencing the procurement process through affiliated companies with IRW.
"The communication is in the form of tender conditioning and information on the HPS value or own estimated price, so that there is a price mark-up because the procurement is not competitive," said Syarief.
In this case, the Attorney General's Office has named seven suspects, including officials in the Pertamina and Petral environment. They are suspected of playing a role in arranging tenders to the issuance of guidelines that are contrary to the board of directors' decisions.
In addition, investigators also highlighted the signing of a memorandum of understanding (memorandum of understanding/MoU) for the supply of refinery products for the period 2012-2014 which is suspected of extending the distribution chain.
As a result, the price of fuel, especially premium (gasoline 88) and pertalite (gasoline 92), is suspected to have experienced an unreasonable and detrimental increase to PT Pertamina.
Currently, five suspects have been detained for the next 20 days. Meanwhile, BBG's suspect was detained for health reasons.
The Attorney General's Office reiterated its commitment to immediately bring Riza Chalid to the country to undergo the legal process.
However, Syarief admitted that the pursuit process was not easy because it involved the jurisdiction of other countries.
"Because this concerns the jurisdiction of other countries outside Indonesia, it does take time. But we have done our best," he said.
The Attorney General's Office ensures that coordination with Interpol and related authorities continues to run to accelerate the arrest of the fugitive.
