Joining the BoP, Commission I of the DPR asks Indonesia to respond firmly to Israel's attack on Beirut

JAKARTA - Member of Commission I of the DPR Syamsu Rizal strongly condemned the massive air attack launched by Israel on Beirut, Lebanon, on Wednesday, April 8. He asked the Indonesian government, which is a member of the Board of Peace, to respond firmly to the attack, which reportedly killed at least 254 people.

Syamsu Rizal assessed that the Israeli military's actions not only caused a large number of casualties, but also damaged the ceasefire agreement between Iran and the United States (US) that had just been reached. Israel, he said, also showed an action that was not worthy of imitation in the context of inter-state relations, where trust and mutual benefit are the basis of relations.

"This attack clearly harms the peace efforts that are being built. The ceasefire agreement between Iran and America is meaningless when military actions like this continue," said Syamsu Rizal, Thursday, April 9.

He also reminded that the escalation of Israeli attacks could potentially complicate the geopolitical situation in the Middle East region, which has long been unstable. "Israel's actions will further heat up the situation in the region and open the potential for a wider conflict," he said.

Syamsu Rizal urged the Indonesian Government to be firm and outspoken in condemning the attack at international forums. He also encouraged Indonesia to actively rally the support of the international community to pressure Israel and the United States to stop actions that worsen the situation.

In addition, the PKB politician emphasized the importance of the Indonesian Government's continued efforts to hold Israel accountable for the deaths of three TNI soldiers who were on a peacekeeping mission in Lebanon. Moreover, Indonesia also joined the Peace Council or Board of Peace.

"Indonesia must consistently fight for justice, including asking for accountability for the death of TNI soldiers who are on duty to maintain world peace," said Syamsu Rizal.

As reported, the Leader of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf on Wednesday, April 8, accused the US of violating the two-week ceasefire agreement. According to Ghalibaf, there are three points from the 10-point proposal for the Iranian ceasefire that the US has violated, one of which is the continuation of Israel's attacks on Lebanon.
