JAKARTA - The United Arab Emirates (UAE) authorities have sent medical assistance consisting of medicines and medical equipment worth 2.7 million UAE dirhams (Rp12,524,765,162) to the Gaza Strip, Palestine.

This delivery, part of Operation Gallant Knight 3 and supported by Sheikha Mouza bint Suhail Al Khaili, comes at a time when hospitals in the region are experiencing a severe shortage of essential medical supplies, The National (6/4) quoted.

The United Arab Emirates is known to continue to support Palestine, even when the country defends itself from Iranian attacks.

Last month, an UAE aid convoy arrived in Gaza carrying clothes, food, medicine, and other essential supplies. They were part of Operation Gallant Knight 3. A fragile ceasefire came into effect in Gaza almost six months ago.

Operation Gallant Knight 3 was launched in response to the outbreak of war in October 2023.

The UAE has been at the forefront of efforts to deliver aid to Gaza, setting up a floating hospital in Egypt, a field hospital in Gaza, and evacuating thousands of cancer patients and those wounded in the war to receive treatment in the UAE.

As part of its vital infrastructure support, Gallant Knight 3 is building six desalination plants with a combined capacity of two million gallons per day, quoted from WAM and Gulf News.

The UAE Field Hospital in Gaza has treated nearly 53,000 patients, while the UAE Floating Hospital in Al-Arish has provided medical care to an additional 20,000 patients. The operation also supplied Gaza's health care system with five new ambulances to strengthen emergency response capacity.

In the social field, nine community initiatives were implemented to help 3,310 residents, including the "Pink October in the Eyes of the UAE" campaign, which offers hope and humanitarian assistance to cancer patients.

During the same period, 3,458 humanitarian assistance requests were handled through an integrated system designed to ensure rapid support and effective delivery of assistance.

In October, Gallant Knight 3 supplied 21 desalination water tankers to the Coastal City Water Company to help meet the urgent water needs of families and communities facing acute shortages.

These tankers - each with a capacity of 10 cubic meters and carrying up to 150,000 liters per trip - help supply the needs of around 200,000 residents, reflecting the UAE's unwavering commitment to easing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

In the food sector, the operation provides around 15,000 meals daily, benefiting 750,000 people, and operates eight bakeries producing around 25,700 loaves of bread daily, supporting almost 128,500 people. In addition, more than 20,000 aid packages were distributed to 41 camps across the Gaza Strip.

On Saturday, Dubai Humanitarian announced that they were transporting 22.3 tons of essential medical supplies to Gaza. The aid, provided by the World Health Organization, will support around 110,000 people.
