Indonesia Expresses Grief and Anger at UN Meeting over Death of TNI Personnel in Lebanon

New York, United States - Indonesian Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Umar Hadi Kala, on behalf of the Indonesian people, expressed anger and deep sorrow over the deaths of three peacekeepers in Lebanon who were part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) mission, two days in a row.

This was conveyed by Umar Hadi in an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in New York, Tuesday, March 31. He said that all Indonesians felt angry and lost over the incident.

Then, Umar also mentioned one by one the names and ages of the personnel who died in the forum as the highest form of respect for Indonesian personnel who died in the peace mission in Lebanon.

The three personnel are Infantry Captain Zulfi Aditya Iskandar (33), Sertu Muhammad Nur Ichwan (25), and Praka Farizal Rhomadon (27). He also conveyed that the three of them fell in a noble mission, where Zulfi and Ichwan fell while delivering logistics in Bani Hayyan while Farizal fell while fulfilling his duties near Adchit Al Qusayr.

In addition, five Indonesian peacekeepers who were injured were also mentioned, namely Lt. Inf. Sulthan Wirdean Maulana, Praka Rico Pramudia, Praka Arif Kurniawan, Praka Bayu Prakoso, and Praka Deni Rianto. Indonesia's anger at the forum was not without reason.

Umar explained that the peacekeepers were targeted when they were carrying out the mandate given by the Security Council itself.

Therefore, Indonesia strongly condemns these attacks and at the same time asks relevant parties to repatriate the bodies of fallen personnel quickly, safely, and with dignity.
