JAKARTA - Palestine has called for international intervention to prevent the forced eviction of more than 200 Palestinian families in Jerusalem.

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry said residents in the Silwan neighborhood face the threat of eviction from their homes by Israeli settlers who have seized Palestinian land.

"More than 200 Palestinian families, consisting of about 900 people in East Jerusalem, are facing the threat of eviction and forced expulsion, mostly as a result of lawsuits filed with Israeli courts by extremist settler organizations," he said, quoted by ANTARA from Anadolu, Saturday, March 28.

According to the ministry, Israeli courts are used "as a tool to strengthen the unprecedented illegal situation and provide pseudo-legitimacy in the Holy City," adding that "the occupation court is part of the occupation's criminal practices."

They noted an increase in forced evictions targeting Palestinians in the occupied Jerusalem area, and strongly condemned the eviction of 15 families last week from the Batn al-Hawa neighborhood in Silwan, as well as the order to demolish seven houses in Qalandiya.

The statement said the construction in Jerusalem was part of a plan "aimed at Judaizing the Holy City, displacing the Palestinian people, and changing its demographic composition."

The ministry called on the international community to act, with the Palestinians urging countries and international organizations to take "more decisive and concrete steps" to prevent the ongoing forced displacement and calling for all Israeli actions to be declared legally invalid.

They also urged the international community to exert diplomatic pressure and strengthen its presence on the ground.

The United Nations said on March 26 that Israeli forces forcibly expelled at least 16 Palestinian families from the Batn al-Hawa area in Silwan.

Israeli forces daily violate the ceasefire imposed since October 10, which has killed 691 people and injured 1,876 others according to Palestinian Ministry of Health data.

Israel launched a war in the Gaza Strip in October 2023, killing more than 72,000 Palestinians, injuring about 172,000 others, and destroying about 90 percent of civilian infrastructure.
