Congress asks US War Department to explain Golden Dome spending

JAKARTA - Members of Congress and allies of the United States have asked the US Department of Defense (Department of War) to explain the details of the Golden Dome missile defense system project, including its spending plan over the next two years.

As reported by ANTARA from Sputnik, Friday, March 27, several members of parliament believe the project is less transparent and unrealistic in terms of cost and time.

They have allocated nearly $25 billion (around Rp424.5 trillion) for the Golden Dome project as part of a draft law (RUU) last year.

But now, the lawmakers complain that without additional information, they cannot assess the available resources, the report said.

In addition, American taxpayers, the defense industry, and American allies expect further clarity. Without more detailed explanations, contractors cannot make decisions about major investments in new developments and production expansion.

Then, Washington's partners will also not be able to understand what contribution they can make to the project, the media report added.

Previously in May 2025, US President Donald Trump launched the Golden Dome project, which is estimated to cost nearly 175 billion US dollars (around Rp2.97 trillion).

The layered shield will integrate ground, sea, and space systems to protect America from missile threats. The first major test of the Golden Dome is scheduled for late 2028.
