JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung revealed a surge in public transportation users during the Eid al-Fitr period, especially when the free tariff policy or Rp1 was implemented.

"Regarding the free public transportation policy on March 21-22, it was recorded that the number of users experienced a significant increase," said Pramono at the DKI Jakarta City Hall, Wednesday, March 25.

Data collected by the DKI Provincial Government shows that MRT Jakarta users reached more than 135 thousand passengers during the period. This figure increased quite sharply compared to the previous year.

"MRT users reached 135,117 passengers or increased by around 59 percent compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, Jakarta LRT users were recorded as many as 9,987 passengers, an increase of around 6 percent compared to the previous year," said Pramono.

The surge in community mobility is also seen from the increasing number of visits to a number of popular tourist destinations in Jakarta during the Lebaran holiday. Some locations that recorded high visitor numbers include the Monas area, Ragunan Zoo, to Ancol.

"The Monas area on March 22-24 was visited by 126,790 people, the Ragunan Zoo by 222,991 visitors, and Ancol by around 155,000 visitors," he explained.

According to Pramono, this trend is inseparable from the implementation of the "Mudik to Jakarta" program initiated by the DKI Provincial Government to attract community movement during the Lebaran holiday.

The program is still ongoing until March 31 involving various sectors, ranging from transportation to tourism and shopping centers.

From an economic perspective, transaction achievement has also continued to increase and has reached tens of trillions of rupiah before Lebaran.

"Until before Lebaran, the transaction value has reached around Rp. 21 trillion. We hope that by March 31, the value can exceed Rp. 25 trillion," said Pramono.

This program was also attended by a number of other regions that also felt the impact of economic movements during that period.

"The 'Mudik to Jakarta' program was also attended by various regions, including Semarang with transactions of around Rp8 billion and Surabaya around Rp6.2 billion. This shows the high enthusiasm of various regions for the program," he explained.
