West Aceh Regent Usut Allegedly Extorting Meat Traders at Meulaboh Market

West Aceh Regent Tarmizi investigated reports of a number of traders who claimed to be fined for meat at the Meulaboh Bina Usaha Market, Wednesday (18/3/2026)

MEULABOH - The West Aceh Regency Government is still trying to investigate the report of illegal extortion or collection of meat at the Meulaboh Bina Usaha Market Complex, as reported by traders in the local market.

"The government is committed to taking firm action to investigate this case," said the Regent of West Aceh, Tarmizi, quoted by Antara Meulaboh, Wednesday, March 25.

As is known, the case of illegal meat quotations was known after the Regent of West Aceh Tarmizi together with related officials, conducted an inspection at the Meulaboh Bina Usaha Market and received a report of illegal meat quotations by individuals from government agencies.

Upon receiving this report, Regent Tarmizi ordered the Head of the West Aceh Trade Service, Khairuzzadi, to thoroughly investigate the case, and asked anyone involved in the collection to be dealt with firmly.

Tarmizi said he did not tolerate the action of collecting meat in the name of a government agency (UPTD Pasar Bina Usaha Meulaboh) to collect meat illegally.

"The government is committed to taking firm action and even firing individuals who are proven to have committed the violations," he said.

Previously, the Chairman of the West Aceh Meat Traders Association, Rustam, said they complained about the wild quotation of meat at every trader in the tradition of meugang per lapak, by individuals who claimed to serve in the UPTD Bina Usaha Meulaboh Market.

"The quotation is half a kilogram of meat per stall," he said.

Rustam admitted that the quotation of meat per stall at each trader was very burdensome for them, because they had paid official levies to the local government of Rp. 200 thousand / stall to sell meat at the meugang tradition at the local market center.
