MALINAU - North Kalimantan (Kaltara) Deputy Governor (Wagub), Ingkong Ala, carried out a working visit to the Apau Kayan border area, Malinau Regency, by reviewing a number of vital infrastructure that are basic needs of the community, Tuesday (24/3/2026).

Upon arrival at Long Ampung Airport, Deputy Governor Ingkong was accompanied by Assistant II of the Provincial Planning, Research and Innovation Agency (Bapperida), Bustan, Head of the Regional Planning, Research and Innovation Agency (Bapperida), Bertius and Head of the Regional Border Management Agency (BPPD), Ferdy Manurun Tanduklangi, immediately reviewed the Long Ampung Bridge which is the main access connecting the community to the airport.

During his review, Ingkong Ala highlighted the condition of the bridge which was considered very worrying. The reason is that the bridge which was built since 2008 has been more than a decade and has never been maintained until now.

"This bridge was built since 2008 and until now it has never been maintained. Of course this is very worrying. Moreover, this is the main access for the community to the airport," said Ingkong Ala.

"In addition, the road conditions on this bridge (long Ampung) are also potholed, the condition of the bridge is also risky," he continued.

The entourage of the Deputy Governor then reviewed the Pratama Hospital (RSP) type D in Long Ampung village. Ironically, the condition of the health facility was considered not optimal and worrying, so it needed serious attention for the improvement of health service facilities and infrastructure for border communities.

"I have seen the condition of RSP Long Ampung, a number of ceilings have been damaged such as near the inpatient room. Yes, the condition is worrying, in fact, how small is the contractor's responsibility since the beginning of its construction. This is a technical problem of building it," explained Ingkong.

The visit continued with an inspection of the Nawang Bridge which connects Kayan Hulu District with South Kayan District. The bridge is known to have been built since 2006 and until now also requires attention, given its function as a link between regions in the Apau Kayan area.

"I built this bridge, it needs attention for maintenance too," he said.

Ingkong Ala emphasized that all the infrastructure reviewed has a strategic role in supporting community activities, both in terms of connectivity and basic services.

"This is a serious concern for us. Infrastructure on the border must be improved so that people can carry out activities safely and basic services can be met well," he concluded.
