KPK: Corruption Starts from Failure to Hold Back

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said that lancung practices often occur because someone fails to restrain himself. Thus, the moment of Nyepi Day of the Saka 1948 New Year is hoped to be a momentum to pause for a moment to reflect.

"The KPK considers Nyepi as a powerful metaphor in the effort to eradicate corruption. Because, the practice of corruption often begins with the failure to refrain - when conscience is ignored and personal interests outweigh public interests," said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo through his written statement, Thursday, March 19.

"Nyepi presents a rare pause: a quiet space to stop for a moment from the hustle and bustle, as well as rearranging the inner direction. In the silence, reflection becomes clearer - about honesty, integrity, and ethical boundaries that must not be violated," he continued.

Budi further said that Nyepi teaches control and courage to return to the right values. So, this moment should be a reminder against corruption not only through law enforcement but also from ourselves.

"This momentum is a reflection and reminder that the war against corruption does not only take place in law enforcement spaces, but also within each individual - when choosing to be honest, rejecting gratification, and not abusing any authority," he said.

Through Nyepi Day, the KPK also invites all elements of the nation to strengthen integrity as the main foundation.

"Because a clean Indonesia from corruption can only be realized when contemplation gives birth to awareness, and awareness becomes real action," said Budi.

"Hopefully, Nyepi Day will bring peace, clarity of conscience, and strengthen our joint commitment to building clean, integrated, and corruption-free governance. Happy Nyepi Day New Year Saka 1948/2026 AD to all Hindus who celebrate," he added.
