Director of General Criminal Investigation (Dirreskrimum) of the Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Pol Iman Imanudin, said the picture was a result of engineering and was allegedly deliberately spread to obscure the investigation process.
"We suspect that this is one of the efforts of the network and the perpetrators themselves to obscure information to obscure the direction of the legal facts obtained," he told the media at the Polda Metro Jaya, Monday, March 16, 2026.
Iman explained that previously the public had seen a video recording at the scene of the crime (TKP) which showed the presence of the perpetrator. After the video went viral, the police assessed that the perpetrators were starting to panic.
"In recent times, we have been presented with the circulation of the crime scene video which makes the perpetrators seem to be published," said Iman.
According to him, since the recording was circulated, the perpetrators and the network involved were suspected of trying to obscure the investigation by spreading images that did not match the facts.
"With the circulation of this crime scene video, the perpetrators actually began to look panicked. The perpetrators and their networks are trying to obscure the investigation process by circulating the engineered image," he said.
Iman emphasized that the circulating photo was false information and was not related to the identity of the perpetrator who was being hunted by the police.
"We can confirm that the photo is a hoax because it is a result of engineering.
Polda Metro Jaya is currently still conducting an investigation to uncover the perpetrators of the water spraying against the KontraS activist. The police are also tracing various clues, including surveillance camera (CCTV) footage around the scene of the incident.
