JAKARTA - Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Iran never asked for negotiations or a ceasefire as claimed by US President Donald Trump.
Foreign Minister Araghchi said Iran was not interested in dialogue with the United States, rejecting President Donald Trump's statement that Tehran wanted an agreement to end the war.
"We are stable and strong enough. We are only defending our people," Araghchi told CBS' "Face The Nation", in an interview aired Sunday, AFP reported (16/3).
"We don't see any reason why we should talk to the Americans, because we were talking to them when they decided to attack us," he continued.
"There is no good experience in talking to the Americans," said President Trump.
Earlier, President Trump on Saturday said Iran wants a deal, but he is not ready to make a deal on current terms, without giving further details.
"We have never asked for a ceasefire, and we have never even asked for negotiations," Foreign Minister Araghchi said.
On the other hand, Foreign Minister Araghchi said Iran would welcome any regional initiative that leads to a just resolution of the conflict in the Middle East.
"Currently, there is no special initiative to end the war. We will welcome any regional initiative that leads to a just end to the war," Araghchi said in an interview with the Al-Araby Al-Jadeed newspaper, as reported by ANTARA from Sputnik.
It is known that tensions have increased in the Middle East, following the attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran on February 28, which Tehran said killed more than 1,300 people, including Ali Khamenei, the former supreme leader, and more than 150 students.
Since then, Iran has launched drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states hosting US military assets.
Tehran has also effectively tightened the Strait of Hormuz since March 1. This narrow waterway transports around 20 million barrels of oil per day and about 20 percent of global liquefied natural gas trade.
