SELAYAR - The Selayar Islands Police have secured a total of 25.44 kilograms of suspected cocaine-type narcotics found by fishermen and residents in a number of different locations on the coastal area of Selayar Islands Regency, South Sulawesi.

The Head of the Kepulauan Selayar Police, Didid Imawan, said all the evidence had been secured and was currently undergoing further investigation.

"We have secured the evidence and conducted initial questioning of the witness who found the package. Furthermore, the evidence will be processed according to procedures for further examination," said Didid through a written statement received in Makassar, Sunday, March 15.

The latest discovery occurred on the coastal area of the West Coast of the Bontosinde Neighborhood, Batangmata Village, Bontomate District, on Friday (13/3) evening.

The package weighs about one kilogram and is wrapped in black plastic with the words "Bugatti".

The suspicious package was first found by a resident named Nuka while walking from his house in Boneria Village, West Lambongan Village to the coast around 19.00 WITA.

At that time, the witness saw a pile of garbage on the edge of the beach and after being checked, found a package containing a white powder suspected of being cocaine.

The residents who found the package then took it home and at around 21.00 WITA reported it to the local Bhabinkamtibmas, Bripka Andi Nuryadin.

The report was then forwarded to the Bontomate Police Chief and the Narcotics Investigation Unit of the Selayar Islands Police.

Following up on the report, the Police Chief together with the Head of the Selayar Islands Police Resnarkoba, Suhardiman, and his staff immediately visited the residents who found the package and conducted a search at the initial location of the discovery.

The evidence of one package suspected of being cocaine with a gross weight of about one kilogram was then secured and taken to the Selayar Islands Police for further investigation.

The Police Chief explained that the discovery complemented the previous series of findings in a number of coastal areas of Selayar.

Previously, fishermen and residents had found 25 similar packages, which were also suspected to be cocaine-type narcotics with a total weight of around 25.44 kilograms in several different locations.

All evidence has now been secured and its handling is carried out through coordination with the South Sulawesi Police and TNI elements.

The next handling process will be carried out together with Kodam XIV/Hasanuddin to uncover the possibility of a drug smuggling network that is suspected of entering through the sea route.

The Police Chief also invited all the Police Chiefs to empower Bhabinkamtibmas together with the community to carry out a search along the Selayar coast.

He asked the public to immediately report to the police if they found a suspicious package suspected of containing narcotics.

In addition, the public who helped find and report the goods will be given an award as a form of appreciation for their concern in eradicating drugs.

Didid emphasized that this step was also part of support for the President's Asta Cita program in efforts to eradicate narcotics.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Selayar Islands Police Resnarkoba, AKP Suhardiman, added that his party was still conducting an investigation to determine the origin of the goods and their possible connection with the previous findings in the Selayar coastal area.
