PADANG PANJANG - The West Sumatra National Road Implementation Office (BPJN Sumbar) has temporarily stopped the Anai Valley Road repair project which was damaged by flash floods at the end of November 2025 to support the smooth flow of the 2026 Lebaran homecoming.

Monitoring on the Lembah Anai section on Sunday, March 15, showed a number of heavy equipment parked on the side of the road, ranging from crawler type excavators, excavators, bulldozers, to cranes that were previously used for road repair work.

The Anai Valley road, specifically on the Sicincin-Padang Panjang route at KM 64, was previously only opened in a limited manner for two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles at 17.00 WIB until 08.00 WIB.

However, to support the smooth flow of homecoming, the route will be open for 24 hours for four-wheeled vehicles during the Lebaran holiday period, starting from H-10 to H+10 Idulfitri.

Bhabinkamtibmas of the Batipuh Police, Afriandi, said the decision was the result of an agreement between the BPJN and the local police.

"It is true that it was stopped because it was related to the anticipation of our travelers who would go home. Therefore, work was temporarily stopped for security," said Afriandi when met at the 2026 Lebaran Security Post in Padang Panjang, quoted from Antara.

He said that until H-6 Lebaran, there was no significant spike in vehicle volume on the route. According to him, most of the migrants who come from abroad usually do not enter the West Sumatra region at the same time.

"There has not been a significant increase in vehicles because it is still H-6. On average, families in the region who enter West Sumatra are not together," he said.

The police predict that the surge in vehicle traffic to West Sumatra will occur on H-3 to H-1 Lebaran, and will increase again on H+1 to H+5 when the expatriates travel for tourism in the area.

Previously, the Ministry of Public Works carried out an emergency handling project due to flash flood and landslide disasters on the Padang Panjang-Sicincin KM 61-67 section.

The project started on November 28, 2025 and is targeted to be completed in July 2026 with the construction of 874 bore pile points to strengthen the road structure.
