JAKARTA - The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) temporarily stopped the operation of two Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) in South Sulawesi after there was a delay in sending Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) packages until the evening which then became a public spotlight on social media.

Deputy Head of BGN Nanik Sudaryati Deyang said that the two MBG kitchens that were temporarily stopped were SPPG Kota Makassar Biringkanaya Sudiang 2 and SPPG Pangkajene and Bungoro Samalewa 1 Islands.

"The delay in distribution until the evening should not be repeated because it has the potential to disrupt the quality of service to the students who benefit from the program," Nanik said in a statement in Jakarta, Antara, Sunday, March 15.

He emphasized that his party took firm steps by temporarily stopping the operations of the two SPPGs to conduct a thorough evaluation of distribution governance, raw material management, and operational readiness in the field.

According to Nanik, the MBG program is a strategic state program that is directly related to public confidence.

Therefore, all implementers in the field are required to carry out standard operating procedures in a disciplined manner, especially in terms of food safety and distribution accuracy.

The termination of operations of the two SPPGs will take effect on March 16, 2026 until an undetermined time while awaiting the results of further investigations.

This step was taken after BGN received a report of a public complaint and conducted an initial investigation regarding the alleged negligence in the process of quality control and readiness for distribution in the field.

The results of the monitoring showed that the preparation of raw materials and packaging did not run according to standard operating procedures, which had an impact on the delay in the delivery of MBG packages to a number of beneficiary schools.

In fact, in one incident, the distribution of food was only carried out until the evening.

Director of Regional Monitoring and Supervision III BGN Rudi Setiawan said the initial investigation showed that the MBG kitchen was not ready to process the raw materials received from suppliers.

"Initial findings show that the quality control process and distribution preparation have not been carried out optimally, which has caused delays in the delivery of MBG packages to beneficiaries," he said.

The incident became a public concern after a video of complaints about the delay in distributing MBG packages was uploaded to social media and spread widely.

In one incident, the food package could not even be accepted by the school on the same day because the distribution was carried out when the school gate was closed.

BGN ensures that food packages that cannot be distributed on the day of the incident are not redistributed in conditions that have the potential to lower quality.

Instead, distribution was carried out again the next day by replacing food items that were no longer fit for use, while conducting training and evaluation of the management of SPPG so that similar incidents would not recur.
