PADANG PARIAMAN - Minister of Culture (Menbud) Fadli Zon handed over assistance to residents affected by disasters in the Cagar Budaya area of the Sibohong Syekh Burhanuddin Cemetery, Gadang Mosque, Padang Pariaman, Thursday, March 12. This visit also highlights the vulnerability of historical sites when natural disasters strike.

Assistance was provided to a number of korongs and nagaries around the pilgrimage area. Among others, Korong Rajang, Korong Baruah, Nagari Sandi Ulakan, Nagari Sungai Batang, the manager of the Inyiak Deer Mosque, and the Sintuk War Museum in Agam Regency. Assistance in the form of prayer equipment was symbolically handed over to representatives of the community.

Minister of Religion Fadli Zon also expressed his condolences for the disaster that hit the residents of Padang Pariaman. He reminded that climate change made the potential for disasters increasingly difficult to predict. Therefore, according to him, social solidarity and mutual cooperation are the key to dealing with this situation.

"I also mourn for the people who are affected. We must be more vigilant in dealing with unpredictable climate change and dealing with disasters with a spirit of mutual cooperation," said Fadli.

He also emphasized that the protection of cultural heritage is the responsibility of the state. The tomb of Sheikh Burhanuddin is not only a place of pilgrimage, but also an important space to understand the history of the spread of Islam in West Sumatra. Therefore, this area needs to be maintained, both physically and historically.

The Regent of Padang Pariaman, John Kennedy Aziz, who was present, said his area had great cultural wealth. Currently there are 98 Cultural Heritage objects and 15 Intangible Cultural Heritage that have been designated.

"The tomb of Sibohong Syekh Burhanuddin Gadang Mosque is recorded as one of the provincial-level Cultural Heritage," he said.

He added that the local government is still strengthening the data collection and protection of cultural objects so that they are not lost from the memory of the next generation.

Fadli menilai tradisi Minangkabau menunjukkan kekuatan dialog kebudayaan yang panjang. Ia berharap generasi muda ikut menjaga warisan itu agar tetap hidup di tengah masyarakat.
