JAKARTA - The head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Lieutenant General TNI Suharyanto, targets that no more disaster-affected residents will live in evacuation tents in Gayo Lues Regency, Aceh, ahead of Eid al-Fitr 2026.

The target was conveyed by Suharyanto when greeting residents living in temporary housing (huntara) in Agusen Village, Blangkejeren District, Gayo Lues Regency.

During the visit, Suharyanto ensured that the government continued to accelerate the construction of temporary housing for residents affected by the massive flood at the end of November 2025.

"We ensure that by the 2026 Eid, for Gayo Lues Regency, there will be no more people in tents," said Suharyanto, Wednesday, March 11.

Based on BNPB's provisional data as of Tuesday, March 10, the temporary housing needs in Gayo Lues Regency were recorded as 1,713 units. Of these, 1,518 huntara units have been completed.

Even so, there are still a number of families waiting for the completion of their huntara construction.

BNPB stated that residents who are still waiting for the construction of the huntara will be temporarily moved to more suitable places, such as the government's work training hall building.

"So that all affected people in Gayo Lues Regency can enjoy, can follow the celebration of Eid al-Fitr better and more wisely," he said.

The communal Huntara in Agusen is currently inhabited by 155 families. Their houses were damaged by the heavy flooding that hit the area at the end of 2025.

In addition to building damage, some residents are also unable to return to build houses on their previous land because the location is no longer habitable.

"They no longer have land so the Gayo Lues Regency Government is trying to find a place for centralized relocation," said Suharyanto.

The Gayo Lues Regency Government has also prepared a plan so that part of the huntara land can currently be converted into permanent housing (huntap) for affected residents.

"Later the technicality is that it is possible after this huntap program, at least after the beginning of April this will be in rehabilitation and reconstruction. We will start building the huntap. Especially in Gayo Lues this is a little different from other areas," he said.

On that occasion, BNPB also distributed assistance to residents in Agusen huntara. The assistance provided includes basic food items and stationery for children.

In addition, BNPB also distributed non-food assistance in the form of mattresses, stoves, fans, and mattresses.

The food assistance was prepared to help the daily needs of residents before they received life assurance assistance from the relevant ministry.
