Condemns US-Israeli Attack on Iran, North Korea Honors Election of Mojtaba Khamenei

JAKARTA - North Korea condemned the illegal attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran, respecting Tehran's right and choice to choose Mojtaba Khamenei as the new Supreme Leader of the State of the Mullahs.

The government-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on Wednesday quoted a spokesman for the North Korean Foreign Ministry as saying that Pyongyang respected Iran's choice to choose Mojtaba Khamenei as Supreme Leader.

"Regarding the recent official announcement that the Iranian Expert Assembly has chosen a new leader of the Islamic Revolution, we respect the right and choice of the Iranian people to choose their Supreme Leader," KCNA reported, quoting the spokesperson's statement as reported by Al Jazeera (11/3).

It is known that the Middle East region is heating up along with the Israeli and US attacks on Iran on February 28, killing civilians and high-ranking Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Iran retaliated by carrying out attacks on Israeli territory and targeting facilities related to US military activity in the Middle East.

After the launch of the US-Israeli war against Iran 12 days ago, Pyongyang condemned what it called "gangster-like behavior" in the Middle East.

"We express our deep concern and strongly condemn the aggression of the United States and Israel, which by launching illegal military attacks against Iran, undermine the foundations of regional peace and security and increase instability in the international arena," the spokesperson said.

The spokesman also condemned the attack as damaging "the political system and territorial integrity of a country," which is unacceptable and "must be condemned and rejected by the entire world."

Mojtaba, who is the son of the late Ali Khamenei, was elected as his father's successor by winning 85 percent of the vote in the election in the Expert Assembly, according to the Iranian Embassy in Jakarta.
