JAKARTA - Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran Ali Larijani on Tuesday issued a veiled threat to US President Donald Trump, warning him to be careful "not to be eliminated" and saying that the Islamic Republic is not afraid of his "empty threats".

"Iran is not afraid of your empty threats. Even those who are stronger than you cannot eliminate the Iranian nation," Larijani tweeted in a post on X, launching Al Arabiya from AFP (10/3).

The statement was a response to President Trump's post threatening to attack Iran harder if the country stopped the flow of oil through the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

"Take care of yourself so that you are not eliminated!" said Larijani.

Previously, President Trump in a post on Truth Social said "if Iran does anything to stop the flow of oil in the Strait of Hormuz, they will be attacked by the United States TWENTY TIMES MORE THAN WE HAVE DONE SO FAR."

The US and Israel launched an attack on Iran that killed its supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, on February 28, triggering a war that has spread across the Middle East.

Iran has responded with drone and missile attacks targeting Israel and countries across the region.

Shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, which is normally passed through by almost 20 percent of the world's crude oil, has been severely disrupted.

Iranian forces have threatened to block "even one liter of oil exports from the region" to the United States and Israel allies as long as the war continues.
