JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has collaborated with the Ministry of Culture (Kemenbud) to accelerate the development of culture, the preservation of cultural heritage, and the development of museums.

Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno who was present at the event said that Jakarta has diverse cultural wealth because it is a meeting space for various cultural backgrounds from across Indonesia.
"Jakarta is a city with a very diverse cultural wealth. As a melting pot, Jakarta has become a meeting place for various traditions, values, and cultural expressions from all over the country," said Rano at the Ministry of Culture's office, Jakarta, Tuesday, March 10.

"On the other hand, culture also has an important role in city development. The development of museums, cultural heritage, performing arts, and culture-based creative industries is able to encourage tourism in Jakarta," he explained.
Through this cooperation, the DKI Provincial Government will strengthen efforts to promote culture, ranging from protection, development, to utilization of culture. Including the training of cultural human resources and increasing the achievement of the Culture Development Index.
"Hopefully this synergy will provide real benefits for the preservation of culture and strengthen the role of culture in the sustainable development of Jakarta," said Rano.
On the same occasion, the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, Fadli Zon, highlighted the many cultural heritage assets in Jakarta that require more attention in terms of preservation and revitalization.
"Especially with DKI Jakarta, Bang Rano, DKI has a lot of cultural heritage assets. The arrangement of the Old City, the master plan, I think we need to be involved so that the cultural heritage in DKI is stronger and we can revitalize it," said Fadli.
He gave an example of a number of historic buildings in the Old City area that have baroque-style architecture but are now abandoned.
"There are many buildings from the 1700s with a baroque style that are now abandoned, including the East Warehouse of the former VOC fence," he said.
The signing of this memorandum of understanding was also attended by a number of ministers and officials from various ministries and agencies, including the Ministry of Communication and Digital, the Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency, the Ministry of Forestry, and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN).
