JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) asked the public to be aware of the potential for landslides in 9 sub-districts in Jakarta this month.

The Head of the DKI Jakarta BPBD, Isnawa Adji, revealed that the forecast of the potential area for land movement in March 2026 was compiled based on the results of the overlay between the land movement vulnerability zone map and the monthly rainfall forecast map.

"According to information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), several areas in the DKI Jakarta Province are in the medium zone," said Isnawa in his statement, Sunday, March 8.

In the medium zone, land movement can occur if rainfall is above normal, especially in areas bordering river valleys, gawir, road cliffs or if slopes are disturbed.

Meanwhile, in the high zone, continued Isnawa, land movement can occur if rainfall is above normal, while long-term land movement can be reactivated.

"For this reason, the head of the village, the head of the sub-district, and the community are urged to continue to anticipate the potential for land movement during rainfall above normal," he said.

In addition, Isnawa reminded the public to be more vigilant about the potential for buildings to collapse, especially during the rainy season.

The incident of building collapse is generally triggered by extreme weather factors, such as heavy rain and strong winds, which increase the risk of damage to the structure of buildings that are already fragile or not well maintained, this is also added if there is a land shift.

As a prevention effort, the BPBD appeals to the public to avoid building permanent buildings in disaster-prone areas such as cliffs, slopes, river banks, and unstable land.

Then, prepare retaining buildings and retaining embankments for landslides, make strong channels / ditches for rainwater flow, compact the soil and strengthen the foundations of buildings, and do not cut trees indiscriminately.

"If you have already settled in a disaster-prone area, do greening around the neighborhood with strong-rooted plants, be alert to high rainfall and always monitor various information media about early warning of land movements from official agencies," said Isnawa.

Then, residents are asked to always prepare a disaster standby bag to anticipate emergencies and do not delay evacuation and do not hesitate to immediately relocate to a safe place when extreme weather occurs.
