10 Vehicles Involved in a Chain Collision on the Cipularang Toll Road, 2 Dead

PURWAKARTA - A series of accidents involving ten vehicles on KM 93 of the Cipularang Toll Road, on Thursday, March 5 evening, is suspected to have been caused by a container truck experiencing a problem in the braking system.

According to the Head of the Cipularang PJR Kompol Joko Prihantono, the accident started when a container truck with the number plate B 9367 UEL was traveling from Bandung to Jakarta on lane one.

When the vehicle arrived at the scene, the traffic flow in front was reported to be dense following a dump truck that had a breakdown on the shoulder of the road.

The container truck is suspected of having a braking or brake problem, so the driver with the initials MY was unable to control the speed of the vehicle.

The container truck then hit a pickup truck with the number plate B 9718 VAF in front of it, triggering a chain collision involving eight other vehicles.

The ten vehicles involved in the accident were a container truck with the number B 9367 UEL, a pickup truck with the number B 9718 VAF, a truck with the number BL 8752 NP, a Toyota Rush with the number F 1308 AZ, a Daihatsu Sigra with the number T 1394 BJ, and a box truck with the number D 9481 AF.

In addition, Toyota Hiace with the plate E 7666 AA, Toyota Raize with the plate T 1518 HO, as well as Mazda Biante and Toyota Agya.

Two people who were drivers and conductors of pickup trucks were reported to have died at the scene of the incident.

Senior Manager Representative Office 3 Jasamarga Metropolitan Tollroad Regional Division, Agni Mayvinna said that the consecutive accident occurred on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 20.18 WIB.

Based on the temporary statement from the officers in the field, the accident, in addition to causing two people to die, also caused four other people to be seriously injured.

"All the victims who have been evacuated were rushed to Radjak Purwakarta Hospital for further treatment," said Agni, quoted by Antara, Friday, March 6.

The accident involving ten vehicles resulted in all lanes being impassable.

Officers from Representative Office 3 Jasamarga Metropolitan Tollroad (JMT) as the manager of the Cipularang Toll Road have been at the location with Highway Patrol, rescue, crane, ambulance, and Mobile Customer Service (MCS).

At 20.59 WIB, one lane can be crossed and at 21.43 WIB, two lanes can be crossed again by road users.
