Disseminator of Online Gambling QR Code in Jaksel Arrested

JAKARTA - The police arrested a suspected distributor of online gambling QR Code stickers (judol) and a fraud network (scam) with the initials SH alias P (38) in South Petukangan, Pesanggrahan, South Jakarta (Jaksel).

"We developed and managed to arrest the alleged perpetrator, the initials SH alias P on Tuesday at around 22.28 WIB at his house, Larangan area, Tangerang City," said Pesanggrahan Police Chief, Kompol Seala Syah Alam at a press conference at the Pesanggrahan Police, Jakarta, Thursday.

The QR Code sticker is said to be very durable, able to be read even if it is damaged up to 30 percent and is commonly used for tracking industrial, electronic, automotive and health components.

Seala said the chronology of the incident on Tuesday (10/2) at around 17.30 WIB and viral on the Instagram social media, after the surveillance camera (CCTV) footage was spread.

At that time, two perpetrators P and F spread QR sticker templates at warteg and motor throughout Jakarta, one of which was a cafe in South Petukangan, Pesanggrahan.

It turns out, after being examined, the QR sticker was connected to a suspected fraudulent judol site. After being investigated, it turned out that the site was connected to a virtual private network/virtual private network (VPN) from outside Indonesia.

"So we coordinate with the South Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit and other units to be able to develop further, because we know that judo is a priority that is the attention of President Prabowo," he said.

After being traced, the police managed to arrest the perpetrator P on Tuesday (17/2), while F and A were on the wanted list (DPO).

"We managed to secure one person, one perpetrator, both of whom we put in DPO," he said.

The evidence seized was three QR stickers, one pink short-sleeved T-shirt, one white basic color shoulder bag, then also one unit of Honda Vario motorcycle, one Honda motorcycle key, one mobile phone unit and also one white hat.

The perpetrator was charged with Article 426 paragraph 1 letter B of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, namely every person who without permission offers or provides an opportunity for the public to play gambling or participate in a gambling enterprise.

Regardless of whether there is a condition or procedure that must be met to use this opportunity, with a maximum criminal threat of nine years in prison.
