TANGERANG - The lack of cinema screens is still a bottleneck for Indonesian films. This can cause production to increase, but the screening space in many areas is still narrow. In the midst of this problem, Minister of Culture Fadli Zon reviewed the Digi Screen facilities in Gading Serpong, Tangerang, Thursday, March 5, 2026. The concept is a digital micro cinema, small capacity, utilizing commercial space that is directed to enter areas that do not have conventional cinemas.

At the location, Fadli and the invited guests watched a demo screening of the Knight Kris animated film teaser to see the quality of the projection and the viewing experience. He assessed that Digi Screen is a practical answer to the "lack of screens" that has so far limited Indonesian films, especially in rural areas.

"It is an extraordinary innovation to answer the challenges we face, namely the lack of screens. This fills the empty spaces because there are no cinemas in these areas," said Fadli.

However, he also emphasized that when screen access is expanded, the ecosystem must be maintained so that audiences continue to come to the cinema and film distribution is not unbalanced. "We need to take care of the ecosystem so that people continue to come to the cinema," he said.

Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya said the momentum for expanding the screen was right because the production and quality of national films had increased, while not all districts/cities had cinemas. He assessed that the need for screens in the regions had become the aspiration of many local governments. "If this is focused on, it won't be long before it becomes one of the largest cinema networks in Indonesia," he said.

From the developer's side, President Commissioner of PT Teknologi Layar Digital Rahayu Saraswatii Djojohadikusumo said Layar Digi was built to connect the upstream-downstream of the film and strengthen the film as soft power. "We are open to working together so that people in all corners of Indonesia can enjoy the works of the nation's children on the big screen," he said. Development to various districts/cities will be carried out gradually after the trial in Gading Serpong.
