JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reminded of the potential for strong winds in the waters of the Thousand Islands and Jakarta Bay on March 4-5, 2026.

Head of the DKI Jakarta BPBD, Isnawa Adji, said the early warning referred to information from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Tanjung Priok Marine Meteorological Station.

"The affected areas in the waters of the Thousand Islands, Jakarta Bay with a maximum wind speed potential of 20 knots at night to early morning," Isnawa said in a statement, Wednesday, March 4.

The wind speed is in the Beaufort Scale 5 which can trigger waves and increase the risk at sea.

For wave height, BMKG estimates it will be in the range of 0.5 to 1.25 meters or a low category in the Thousand Islands waters, Jakarta Bay, Bekasi-Karawang waters, Subang, and Indramayu.

Although it is low, Isnawa reminded of the risk to the safety of navigation. Fishing boats are at high risk when the wind speed is more than 15 knots and the wave height is above 1.25 meters.

Barges are at risk in winds of more than 16 knots and waves of more than 1.5 meters, while ferry boats are at risk in winds exceeding 21 knots and waves of more than 2.5 meters.

Large-sized ships such as cargo ships or cruise ships are at risk if the wind speed exceeds 27 knots with a wave height of over 4 meters.

Apart from the shipping sector, BPBD also reminded residents to be aware of the impact of strong winds on land.

"Be aware of the potential dangers due to strong winds, such as falling trees, falling billboards, or damage around us," said Isnawa.

Isnawa asked residents to ensure the condition of the environment around the house, secure items outside the room, and avoid vulnerable areas such as under trees or unstable buildings.
