Britain Prepares to Evacuate 94,000 Citizens from the Middle East

LONDON - Britain is preparing to evacuate 94,000 of its citizens from the Middle East who have registered their contact details with the Foreign Office amid the escalation of the region, reports the Daily Mail.

The report, as quoted by RIA Novosti on Monday, March 2, emphasized that most British citizens in the region were tourists, both on vacation in the Middle East and on their way to other regions.

The newspaper noted the unprecedented scale of the operation, led by British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, and reported that British authorities were negotiating with major Arab airlines to secure their cooperation.

The United States and Israel launched a joint attack on Saturday (28/2) on Iranian targets, including in Tehran, which caused damage and civilian casualties.

Iran then launched a retaliatory missile attack on Israeli territory and on US military facilities in the Middle East as a self-defense measure.

The attack on Iran came despite this week's talks mediated by Oman between Washington and Tehran on Iran's nuclear issue in Geneva, Switzerland.
