JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government ensures the availability of safe basic materials ahead of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 2026. This certainty was conveyed amid the heating up of the conflict between the United States, Israel and Iran which is feared to have an impact on global commodity prices.

Head of the DKI Jakarta Office of Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises (PPKUKM), Elisabeth Ratu Rante Allo, said that all strategic commodities were in a fairly good condition based on projections of needs and available stocks.

"Based on the prognosis of food needs and availability, all strategic commodities in Jakarta are in a sufficient status with adequate reserves amid the heating up of the US-Israel and Iran conflicts," the Queen said in a statement, Monday, March 2.

The Provincial Government noted an increase in consumption of a number of commodities during Ramadan. The need for chicken eggs is projected to increase by around 7.5 percent. Beef/buffalo meat and garlic also increased by around 3.5 percent.

Even so, stocks are still far above the needs. For rice, for example, there are more than 100 thousand tons, while the needs are around 68 thousand tons.

"Meanwhile, chicken meat and beef also have a multiple reserve of monthly needs. Likewise, granulated sugar and cooking oil, which have stocks of tens of thousands of tons and are declared sufficient," said Elisabeth.

Entering the Idulfitri period in March, the surge in consumption is projected to be higher. Chicken eggs are the commodity with the largest increase, more than 17 percent. Followed by chicken meat and red onions which rose above 10 percent.

However, in terms of supply, the Provincial Government claims that stocks remain safe. Rice is recorded at more than 136 thousand tons, while the need is around 78 thousand tons.

"However, rice stocks are recorded at more than 136 thousand tons, far exceeding the needs of around 78 thousand tons. Animal protein commodities, granulated sugar, cooking oil, and various horticulture also have adequate stock buffers," he said.

To anticipate potential price volatility due to global dynamics, the DKI Provincial Government has strengthened coordination with food BUMD, major distributors, trader associations, and the central government. This step is taken to ensure that distribution runs smoothly and daily stocks in traditional markets and modern retail are maintained.

"We will also intensify the process of monitoring prices in the field. If there are indications of unreasonable price increases, we will immediately intervene through market operations, cheap food bazaars, to optimize supplies from BUMD," explained Elisabeth.

He also appealed to the public not to make excessive purchases. "Our commitment is clear, maintaining the stability of supply and prices so that the public can carry out Ramadan and celebrate Eid al-Fitr comfortably," he concluded.
