US-Israel Attacks Iran: Indonesia is Ready to Facilitate Dialogue, President Prabowo Willing to Fly to Tehran for Mediation

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a post on social media said Indonesia was ready to facilitate dialogue to restore a conducive security condition, with President Prabowo Subianto ready to mediate, following the attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran on Saturday morning.

In a post on the X social media, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote, "Indonesia deeply regrets the failure of negotiations between the US and Iran, which has led to an escalation of military activity in the Middle East region."

"Indonesia calls on all parties to refrain and prioritize dialogue and diplomacy," the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs tweeted as quoted on Saturday (28/2).

Furthermore, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote, "Indonesia again emphasizes the importance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of each country and resolving differences through peaceful means."

"The Government of Indonesia, in this case the President of the Republic of Indonesia, expresses its readiness to facilitate dialogue for the creation of a conducive security condition and if both parties agree, the President of Indonesia is willing to depart for Tehran to mediate," wrote the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"Increased tensions in the Middle East have the potential to disrupt regional stability as well as world peace and security," he added.

Regarding the development of the situation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hopes that "Indonesian citizens in the affected areas are urged to remain calm, vigilant, follow the instructions of the local authorities, and maintain communication with the nearest Indonesian Representative."

As previously reported, the US and Israel launched an attack on Iran on Saturday morning, with President Donald Trump saying it was to destroy Tehran's missiles and missile industry.

The attack was a major escalation after weeks of negotiations between US and Iranian officials over the country's nuclear program.

President Trump confirmed in a video posted on social media that the United States had launched a "massive and sustained" military campaign in Iran, "to prevent this very evil radical dictatorship from threatening America and our core national security interests."

"We will destroy their missiles and destroy their missile industry," President Trump said, as reported by CNN.

In his video message, Trump said Iran had sought to rebuild its nuclear program after the US bombed its nuclear facilities in June.

"They refuse every opportunity to achieve their nuclear ambitions, and we can no longer tolerate that," he said.

An American official told CNN on Saturday morning that the attack was underway, describing it as "not a small attack."

Previously, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz called the attack a "preemptive strike" against Iran, while a state of emergency was declared throughout Israel.

The attack targeted Iranian ballistic missiles and missile launchers, which Israel considers a serious threat. It is not clear if there were any casualties.

Videos tracked and verified by CNN showed smoke billowing from the capital Tehran. Meanwhile, attacks were also reported in Iranian cities such as Isfahan, Qom, Karaj, and Kermanshah, according to the state-run Fars news agency.
