JAKARTA - The police have disciplined the action of panco gambling by a group of teenagers who took place at night on the momentum of Ramadan 1447 Hijriah in the Pagutan area, Mataram City, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).
Head of the Mataram Police, AKP Mulyadi, revealed that this regulation was part of the follow-up to complaints from the public who were uneasy with the activities of a group of teenagers.
"So, we received a report that a group of teenagers were playing panco with the indication of betting. The joint personnel last night immediately went to the location that was suspected of often being their gathering place and was disciplined," he said in Mataram, Sunday, quoted by Antara.
Mulyadi, who led the night patrol, visited an open location that was reported to be a place where a group of teenagers often played panco gambling, namely in Karang Buaya Village, Pagutan District, Mataram City.
During the crackdown, the police secured at least 14 teenagers along with seven two-wheeled vehicles. All the teenagers were then taken to the Mataram Police to be further data and guidance.
"As a coaching step, we called the parents of each teenager. In the presence of officers and parents, our teenagers were reminded of the dangers of juvenile delinquency and the negative impact of gambling activities," said Mulyadi.
Each teenager was then asked to make a statement not to repeat his actions. After making a statement, all teenagers were returned to their parents or family representatives.
Through this intensive enforcement, Mulyadi appealed to the public about the importance of parents' role in monitoring and supervising children's social interactions, especially when they are outside the house at night.
He also emphasized that his party would continue to intensify patrols at night, especially during the Ramadan momentum.
"This effort is part of the police's rapid response so that the community situation in the Mataram Police Precinct, especially during the fasting month, remains conducive," he said.
