Pramono Threatens to Fire Satpol PP and Dishub Proven to Carry Out Illegal Parking Fines

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung emphasized that he would not tolerate illegal collection practices (pungli) in handling illegal parking, both by the Satpol PP and the DKI Jakarta Transportation Service (Dishub).

The confirmation was made following public scrutiny regarding the alleged extortion of vehicles that were parked carelessly in a number of points in Jakarta.

"If there is indeed a levy carried out by anyone, whether it is Satpol PP or anyone else, as long as the DKI Jakarta government apparatus, including PJLP, we will take firm action," said Pramono at the Pusaka Flag Park, Friday, February 20.

He ensured that there would be no compromise for aparatur who misused their authority in the field. He threatened to remove up to dismiss if proven to be involved.

"I am not hesitant to free-assign. We do not compromise for that," he said.

Pramono said that handling illegal parking indeed requires a firm stance from the local government together with law enforcement officers. Enforcement operations will continue to be carried out to ensure that rules are in place and are not used by individuals.

"So for handling illegal parking in Jakarta, indeed, the first thing is a firm attitude from the Jakarta government and also law enforcement officers are needed. So we do it, so that there are operations and so on," he said.
