PROBOLINGGO - The Probolinggo Police (Polres) continues to hunt for the perpetrators of the theft of seven suitcases of foreign tourists from Thailand while visiting the Bromo Mountain tourist area, East Java.

"Currently we are still investigating the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, other evidence, and taking statements from several witnesses," said Probolinggo Police Chief AKBP M. Wahyudin Latif, quoted by Antara, Friday, February 20.

The police are still working hard to uncover the perpetrators who stole a backpack belonging to a Thai tourist containing electronic items such as cameras and iPhones, cash, and important documents in the form of passports.

"We have formed a special team to accelerate the disclosure of the case because the incident can worsen the image of security at the Bromo Mountain tourist object which has been safe and conducive," he said.

Based on an initial check of CCTV footage around the location, the Probolinggo Police Criminal Investigation Unit has conducted an investigation and asked for information from a number of residents around the tourist Bromo Mountain crime scene (TKP).

"Currently, the Criminal Investigation Unit has conducted an examination of witnesses who were around the crime scene to uncover the incident clearly and thoroughly," he said.

All the tourist bags were initially stored in the parked car, then the driver and the tourist group got off for a moment and the car carrying the bags was locked. When the group returned to the car, the condition of the bags was amburadul and seven bags containing valuables were missing.

The total loss suffered by the group of foreign tourists from Thailand was estimated at around IDR 108 million and the case has been reported to the Probolinggo Police.
