BANDUNG - The Special Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimsus) of the West Java Police dismantled a warehouse for storing and processing expired products in Jatinangor District, Sumedang Regency, by naming a suspect with the initials CSP, the owner of the company.
Director of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the West Java Police, Kombes Wirdhanto, said the disclosure of the case was carried out after receiving a report regarding the circulation of condensed milk and yogurt at prices below standard.
"The team conducted an investigation on February 11, 2026 and found a warehouse in Cibesi Village, Jatinangor District, Sumedang Regency, which was processing expired goods to be resold," said Wirdhanto as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, February 19.
He explained that initially the company managed returnable waste and expired products to be diverted into animal feed. However, in July 2025, the practice changed after one of the employees judged that products that had just passed the expiration date were still worth consuming.
"They decided to resell some items that had just passed the expiration date a few months ago. The modus operandi that was carried out was to remove the expiration date using alcohol so that it was not visible," he said.
Apart from food and beverages, the police also found products for children and adults who were repackaged using clear plastic and sold to grocery stores.
Officers also secured expired yoghurt-based candle wax packaged in a 250-milliliter plastic and marketed to children and residents around the warehouse.
"If there is still an expiration date, employees will remove it using alcohol, then separate the product into a designated place to be ready for sale," he said.
Wirdhanto said that this practice had been going on since July 2025 and had generated profits of more than IDR 380 million for the CSP suspect. Investigators are also investigating the possibility that expired products were used as parcels ahead of Lebaran.
"The suspect's actions in distributing expired food and drinks have the potential to endanger public health," he said.
According to him, for his actions, the suspect was charged with Articles 141, 142, and 143 of Law Number 18 of 2012 concerning Food, with a maximum penalty of two years in prison and a fine of up to Rp. 4 billion.
"We urge the public to be more careful when buying food, drinks, and consumables, especially before Ramadan, by ensuring the label, expiration date, and origin of the product to avoid health risks," he said.
