PROBOLINGGO - The Probolinggo Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) together with related parties and residents moved quickly to handle the landslide disaster that closed the Sapih Village road access due to heavy rain that hit the Lumbang District, Probolinggo Regency, East Java, Wednesday, February 18.
"There were no casualties in the incident, but the village road access was temporarily closed by landslide material, which disrupted the activities of residents," said the Head of the Probolinggo Regency BPBD, Oemar Sjarief, quoted by Antara, Thursday, February 19.
Based on reports in the field, the first point of the landslide closed the village road access to Pondokterop Village along approximately 25 meters with the height of the landslide area estimated to be 100 meters.
Meanwhile, at the second point, a landslide caused the wall of a house belonging to a resident named Misto in Sapih Sarirejo Village to be damaged or breached due to the impact of soil material.
"The Rapid Response Team (TRC) from the Probolinggo Regency BPBD together with related elements immediately carried out assessments and volunteer work at the scene," he said.
According to him, the BPBD moved quickly after receiving reports from the region, so that the TRC together with related elements immediately carried out assessments at two landslide points, and carried out volunteer work to reopen access to roads that were covered with material and helped clean up landslides from affected residents' homes.
Until now, the condition at the location is relatively safe and there are no casualties, but the public is urged to remain vigilant considering that the potential for subsequent landslides can still occur if heavy rains return.
"We appeal to residents, especially those living on slopes or near cliffs, to increase vigilance. If there are signs of land movement, immediately report so that it can be handled immediately," he said.
He explained that many parties were involved in handling the landslide disaster in Sapih Village, namely BPBD, Satpol PP, Lumbang District staff, Koramil, Polsek and Sapih Village apparatus together with the Sapih Village community.
Through this cross-sector synergy, the road access which was closed was gradually able to be passed again after the landslide material was cleaned up in a cooperative manner.
