JAKARTA - Indonesian Foreign Minister (Menlu) Sugiono reiterated Indonesia's support for Palestine when he met with the Permanent Representative of Palestine to the United Nations Riyad Mansour in New York, United States, Monday (16/2).

The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in its press statement on Tuesday said the meeting at the Palestinian Representative Office was warm and discussed the latest developments in Palestine as well as the progress of the peace process.

The meeting was held ahead of the UN Security Council meeting on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue, which is scheduled to take place on Wednesday (18/2).

At the beginning of the meeting, Sugiono emphasized Indonesia's commitment to encouraging the realization of a just and sustainable peace. Indonesia also emphasized the importance of the Two-State Solution to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Riyad Mansour expressed appreciation for the direct presence of the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs in New York and assessed that the visit strengthened the solidarity of the two countries in encouraging concrete UN action in the midst of the difficult situation faced by the Palestinian people.

He emphasized that Indonesia has a special place in the hearts of the Palestinian people with a close historical bond since the birth of the Bandung Charter in 1955.

The two diplomats also exchanged views on the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2803 (2025), especially the establishment of the Peace Council (BoP) and the plan to deploy the International Stabilization Force (ISF) in the Gaza Strip, Palestine.

Mansour believes that Indonesia can play a constructive role in both initiatives to encourage the realization of the Two-State Solution.

"We are ready to contribute further, including preparing for the possibility of deploying peacekeepers to Gaza, which can be started with health and reconstruction assistance," said Sugiono.

At the end of the meeting, the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs conveyed President Prabowo Subianto's plan to participate in the Peace Council meeting in Washington this week with a number of world leaders, including countries that are members of the Group of 8 (D8).

"The participation of the President of Indonesia aims to ensure that every decision taken is in line with the UN Charter and existing multilateral efforts, to pave the way for a just and sustainable peace," said Sugiono.
