China Angered by Video of CIA Job Ad in Mandarin Language to Recruit Military Officials

China said it would take firm action against foreign espionage activities after the US intelligence agency, the CIA, opened a job vacancy in the form of a video targeting the Chinese army.

"China will take all necessary measures to resolutely combat infiltration and sabotage activities from foreign anti-China forces and resolutely protect national sovereignty, security, and development interests," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian told a news conference when asked about the CIA video, Friday, February 13, quoted by AFP.

The CIA job video that seduces soldiers to Chinese military officials is in Mandarin and published on the US intelligence agency's official YouTube channel on Thursday local time.

In the video, a fictional Chinese officer is depicted deciding to contact the CIA after concluding that "the only thing leaders protect is their own interests" and that "their power is based on countless lies."

The video shows the officer at home with his family, then driving past a checkpoint in the midst of heavy rain before pulling out a laptop in the car and typing on it while saying: "Choosing this path is my way of fighting for my family and my country."

The Mandarin-language text narrative accompanying the video contains a plea to leak information about Chinese leaders and the military as well as other areas.

"Do you have information about high-ranking Chinese leaders? Are you a military officer or have a relationship with the military? Do you work in the field of intelligence, diplomacy, economy, science, or advanced technology, or deal with people who work in these fields?" wrote the tekas narrative in the video.

"Please contact us. We want to understand the truth," the text continued.

At the end of the video, the CIA informs those interested in the job vacancy: "safely through our Tor hidden service."
